KUCHING: Sarawak’s relationship with Australia’s Northern Territory is gaining momentum with a growing interest in areas such as renewable energy, carbon capture, and agribusiness, particularly cattle farming.

Northern Territory Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill, said the cooperation would mainly focused on natural resource development, including the Beetaloo Sub-basin gas development project by Tamboran Resources, which is slated to begin production next year.

For the record, Tamboran Resources is developing the Beetaloo Sub-basin, a large shale gas resource in the Northern Territory of Australia, with the aim of supplying gas to the Northern Territory and potentially to the east coast and LNG markets.

“Production will begin next year, and we will start seeing the benefits as early as next year itself.

“We warmly welcome investors and innovators from Sarawak to join us in this endeavour,” she said during the Australia’s Northern Territory Networking Dinner here on Wednesday (June 25).

Robyn also shared on the Northern Territory’s growing focus on carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), which she believes offers strong potential for knowledge-sharing with Sarawak.

In addition, Sarawak’s floating solar project in Bakun has piqued interest and will be brought to the attention of the Northern Territory’s Minister for Energy.

Recognising the shared historical journeys of both regions in pursuing greater autonomy from their respective federal governments, she noted that strengthening intergovernmental ties and people-to-people connections are crucial

“Our government only assumed office in August last year and has yet to mark a full year, but we have already made significant progress. We are streamlining business processes in the Northern Territory to make it an ideal destination for foreign investment and collaboration.

“We believe there are real opportunities to be explored with Sarawak, and we will continue building on the relationship we have established,” she said.
