KUCHING: The 20th Sarawak Outdoor Archery Championships will be held at State Stadium here from August 14 to 17. More than 150 participants from three centres in Kuching, Sibu and Miri are expected to compete in the event organised by Sarawak Archery Association and Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS).
Sarawak Archery Association (SAA) secretary-general Chong Yap Jin said most of the competitors will be from the northern region where there are two main archery clubs and another
coming up. Chong said the MSNS has been providing the main assistance in the organisation of the meet as it provides the shooting range as well as target butts.
“We are organising the event to provide an avenue for the archers in the state to compete locally because it will cost more to travel to Peninsular Malaysia to contest.
“It will give the good archers from the local centres the opportunity to test their skills”, said Chong, who added the two archery clubs in Miri are King Archery Centre and X-Tune Archery Club and the one coming up soon will be known as Miri Archery Club.
Chong also said SAA will hold the Sarawak Youth Archery Championships from July 13 to 16 at the Miri Indoor Stadium.
Organised for the first time, the youth tournament will be divided into three categories (under-12, under-15 and under-18).
Besides the two tournaments, SAA will hold a Sarawak Indoor Archery Championships from November 27 to December 1 at MBKS
stadium here. One week before the 20th outdoor event, a state judge course will be held at the state stadium here to cater to those who are interested to be judges especially the teachers.
