LAWAS: Infrastructure development at the Maragang Green Valley Dairy Sdn Bhd Buffalo Farming Station reflects the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to strengthening the local food industry, particularly the buffalo-based dairy subsector.
Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, said the initiative not only supports the state’s food security agenda but also creates new economic opportunities for the local community.
“The development of this infrastructure demonstrates the Sarawak Government’s seriousness in reinforcing the local food industry, especially the buffalo-based dairy subsector, which has high potential to be developed commercially and sustainably,” he said when visiting the livestock station on Saturday.
Dr Abdul Rahman emphasised that an integrated approach involving livestock management, processing capabilities and technical expertise is crucial to ensure the production of high-quality dairy products that can penetrate wider markets.
The visit aimed to provide a firsthand assessment of the implementation of key infrastructure upgrades supporting the systematic and commercially viable production of buffalo milk–based cheese.
Among the facilities completed are a feedlot station, a cheese manufacturing plant and a storage warehouse, all of which serve as essential components in the dairy production value chain.
Also present during the visit were Lawas Veterinary Services Department assistant veterinary officer Robine Asut, Maragang Green Valley Dairy Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Dr Raja Imran Shah, chief operating officer Suzie Balung, consultant Dr Nur Husna Abdul Rahman, consultant Muhammad Ariff Mohd Adzeman and cheese-making specialist Dr Lorenzo Garigllo.
