KUCHING: The IBF World Cup in Hong Kong proved to be a truly unforgettable experience for Sarawakian bowler, Gillian Lim Siew Giok, not just for her silver medal achievement but for the exceptional facilities she competed in.

Gillian Lim, the only Sarawakian in the team, was particularly impressed by the specially-built stadium and lanes created for the finals.

“The experience was amazing. The finals were held in a stadium with lanes built specifically just for the event,” Gillian Lim told Sarawak Tribune recently.

The 26-year-old from Lutong, Miri, has been bowling since she was eight and is no stranger to high-level competition.

Competing as part of the Malaysian team, she helped secure the silver medal in the women’s team event, marking a major milestone in her career.

Gillian Lim, who began her bowling journey under the guidance of her father, Tony Lim Lee Choong, had steadily climbed the ranks, joining the Sarawak Elite Squad and eventually earning a place in the Malaysian National Youth Team in 2018.

She was promoted to the National Elite Backup Squad in 2020, where she continued to develope her skills under national coaches Wendy Chai and Holloway Cheah.

The Sarawakian also shared she will be competing in the Malaysia International Open in April.

“Our next tournament is in April, which is the Malaysia International Open. For now, we have resumed back to our usual training routine because we just came back for training after (the) Chinese New Year break,” she said.

Previously on Jan 25, at the press conference for the Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup 2025, Gillian Lim was honoured by Malaysia Tenpin Bowling Congress Deputy President, Sunny Si Poh Heng, for her inspiring journey and achievements made at the 2025 IBF World Bowling Championships.

“Her hard work and determination had not only brought immense pride to Sarawak, but it had also set a benchmark for aspiring athletes of the sport,” Sunny Si concluded.

The Mirian bowler was also presented with a token of appreciation, in recognition of her achievement at the championship, in which Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah handed over the mock cheque to her.

Meanwhile last December, the bowling maestro clinched back-to-back Women’s Open titles at the Malaysia International Open Bowling Championship.
