KUCHING: The Sarawak Education Department has extended its condolences to Litun Ajip, the wife of the late Dawellies Luing, who was the Dormitory Supervisor at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Jekitan, Baram.
They said that the passing of Dawellies, who was one of the victims who died in the tragic accident at Sungai Sengayan, is a significant loss.
“It is not only a loss to his beloved family, but also to the entire community who knew and cherished him.
“The department has lost a dedicated officer who carried out his duties with commitment in the effort to enhance and uphold the standard of education in Sarawak and Malaysia,” said the department in a statement via its official Facebook page yesterday.
They also expressed hope that the bereaved family will remain strong and be given the strength to endure this difficult time.
“We pray that his soul will be blessed and placed among the righteous. Our heartfelt condolences,” it added.
Dawellies and his nine-year-old daughter, Vallerie Mentie, were in a four-wheel drive vehicle with his wife, Litun Ajip, and a driver when they were swept away while attempting to cross the river on April 14.
Litun and the driver managed to save themselves, but Vallerie was found drowned about two kilometres from the scene by villagers on the same day.
Dawellies’ body was recovered on Friday, April 18.
