ALL 1,106 government services in Sarawak will be made fully accessible online by 2030 as part of the state’s digital transformation agenda.

Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly, said that this comprehensive digitalisation initiative is central to enhancing the delivery of public services and reflects the state’s commitment to becoming a high-income and developed region.

“Digitalisation enables us to deliver services faster, reduce bureaucracy, make informed, data-driven decisions and facilitate smoother business processes.

“This is how we modernise our governance,” he said.

He congratulated the Sarawak Civil Service for achieving 55 per cent digitalisation of services in 2024, surpassing the state’s original target under the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our civil service and the momentum we have built in driving digital change.

“Most importantly, it translates into real benefits for the rakyat, with government services becoming more accessible, transparent and efficient,” he added.

Abang Johari stressed that the transformation journey will continue with urgency, responsibility and discipline, with continuous enhancements in both delivery and civil service capability.

He also outlined the importance of having an agile, competent and future-ready civil service.

“Our officers play a crucial role in translating policies into impactful projects for the rakyat.

“We are committed to upskilling our officers with the right knowledge and global best practices,” he said.

Abang Johari said among efforts to strengthen the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) are training partnerships with top global institutions, including Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

In a recent visit to LSE, he led a high-level roundtable that explored collaboration in executive education, policy leadership, and research in the fields of energy, climate and sustainability.

“We are now working to integrate environmental economics, sustainable finance, and ESG principles into the civil service to prepare our officers for future challenges,” he said.

Additionally, he highlighted the Sarawak government’s commitment to upholding integrity and good governance.

“We have introduced special training programmes for civil servants, along with an Anti-Corruption Workshop for State Legislative Members, to help ensure all leaders carry out their duties with honesty, strong ethics and a clear sense of responsibility.

“We are proud to be the leading state in Malaysia with the highest number of Certified Integrity Officers. This reflects our commitment to good governance and ethical leadership,” he said.

He called on the Sarawak Civil Service to remain united as “One Team SCS”, to act with integrity, stay committed, and uphold the highest standards of excellence.

“The journey ahead is challenging, but with the spirit of unity and professionalism, we will succeed together,” he said.
