SELANGAU: The Sarawak government continues to enhance the quality of rural housing with the provision of a RM50,000 Longhouse Housing Loan Scheme for each door, aimed at assisting residents to build new longhouses or upgrade existing units.

Selangau MP Edwin Banta said the initiative underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to ensure communities in the interior enjoy safer and more comfortable living conditions, in line with the state’s inclusive development agenda.

He pointed out that the Selangau parliamentary constituency is among the largest in the state, encompassing more than 840 longhouses.

“As the area is vast, development allocations are distributed in phases to ensure that every longhouse benefits accordingly and that no one is left behind,” he said.

He was speaking at the Pengerami Mangkung Tiang programme held at Rumah Panjai, Beruroh 1, Sungai Bawang, here on Tuesday (Feb 17).

Edwin added that the RM50,000 loan per door scheme is one of GPS’ key efforts to help rural folk improve their longhouse units, making them more conducive and properly structured.

“We understand the challenges faced by rural communities.

“That is why assistance and allocations are channelled in stages so that all areas have the opportunity to enjoy development,” he added.

Edwin also stressed that such programmes serve not only as platforms to deliver assistance but also as important avenues for leaders to engage directly with the people and listen to their concerns and requests first hand.
