1,000 HOUSEMEN

KUCHING: The Sarawak State Health Department looks forward to receiving additional manpower to help curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state.

Its director Dr Chin Zin Hing told New Sarawak Tribune that the department welcomed the initiative by the Health Ministry to station 1,000 housemen in public hospitals nationwide today (Mar 16).

Such decision by the ministry was made to support medical staff, particularly doctors, who had their hands full due to the current Covid-19 scare.

Chin said, “We welcome the decision from the ministry. And we look forward to receive their support in our hospitals.”

On Saturday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba explained that the housemen would help make hospital operations run smoother in view of the viral outbreak situation.

“However, they will also have to go through an induction course for five days, including the handling of Covid-19 elements,” he told a press conference at Kempas, Johor Bahru.
