State Ombudsman delegation calls on Head of State

KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, received a courtesy call from the Sarawak Ombudsman Office at his official residence here today.

The visit, led by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, was aimed at briefing Wan Junaidi on the roles and recent developments of the Sarawak Ombudsman Office as an independent oversight institution established under the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance, 2023.

The delegation also shared with Wan Junaidi its key achievements throughout 2025, which focused on institutional development, stakeholder engagement and capacity building.

Among the major achievements highlighted were the organisation of town hall sessions with public service agencies, the hosting of Sarawak Ombudsman Day 2025, as well as working visits to Sweden, the United Kingdom and Australia to learn best practices in complaint handling and investigation.

Based on these achievements, the delegation said the key programmes for 2026 will focus on expanding outreach and public awareness across Sarawak.

They will also emphasise stronger complaint management, more effective investigations, enhanced staff training, and continued regional and international engagement.

Additionally, Wan Junaidi was also introduced to newly appointed officers of the Sarawak Ombudsman Office, including Deputy Chief Ombudsman, Alexander Unya Ambon, who is currently carrying out the duties of the Chief Ombudsman, as well as Ombudsman Albert Tang Yew Liong, and Ombudsman Toieyah Tioh.

Also present were Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi; Director of the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit, Premier’s Department of Sarawak, Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman; Senior Assistant Director of the Sarawak Ombudsman Office, Sukri Mohtar; and other officers from the Sarawak Ombudsman Office.
