KUCHING: Sarawak is on track to exceed RM12 billion in tourism receipts this year, buoyed by consistent monthly earnings of over RM1 billion.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the state had recorded RM4.074 billion in total tourism receipts from January to April 2025, with each month surpassing the RM1 billion mark.
“For April alone, receipts stood at RM1,059,866,955.48. These are encouraging indicators,” he said, attributing the strong figures to the tourism sector’s broad-based contribution across hotels, restaurants, and retail.
He said this during a press conference after officiating the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) at the Imperial Hotel Kuching on Friday.
In the same period, Sarawak registered 1,602,445 visitor arrivals, including 412,114 in April.
“So far, we are on target. Normally, visitors’ arrival pick up from mid-year to the end of the year due to a higher number of events.
“We should be able to hopefully hit the target we need by December 31,” he said.
Brunei accounted for the highest number of foreign arrivals in April, followed by Indonesia, Singapore, China and the Philippines.
“These are good indicators. The data shows not just volume but the diversity of our source markets,” he added.
