KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Service has continued to strengthen the state’s financial efficiency and transparency, says State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki.

He said this is achieved through the adoption of results-oriented strategies, the use of digital financial tools, and the integration of sustainability principles in budget formulation.

Abu Bakar said various initiatives have been introduced within the state’s public sector financial system, including accrual accounting, results-based budgeting, and the use of digital technology.

“These initiatives are part of efforts to enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the Sarawak Public Service financial system,” he said in his speech during the Public Sector Financial Transformation Conference (PSFTC), officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at a hotel here today (Aug 6).

He added that public financial management must undergo a paradigm shift driven by innovation, moving beyond traditional approaches alone.

“We need to go beyond traditional thinking and begin focusing on outcomes, impact, and value for money,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of introducing green budgeting, integrating ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles, and formulating new revenue generation strategies within the current public sector financial landscape.

He said through this ongoing transformation, Sarawak aims to build a public service that is not only financially innovative but also driven by the voice of the people and committed to long-term wellbeing.

He also called on all civil servants, government agencies, and government-linked companies (GLCs) to take full advantage of this conference as a platform to spark sustainable change and deliver added value to the people.
