BINTULU: The growth of private hospitals in Sarawak reflects the state’s readiness to provide efficient and high-quality healthcare services.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the relaunch of Kemena Pacific Hospital reflects Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) Group’s ability to grow across the state.
He added that with hospitals already in Kuching, Sibu and Miri, the group has cemented its reputation as a strong local brand in private healthcare.
“This shows that we are ready to provide healthcare through private hospitals, and it also shows that our healthcare services will be more efficient and of good quality.
“I must congratulate the group for expanding their operations throughout the state of Sarawak,” he said at a press conference after the official relaunch for Kemena Pacific Hospital here today.

Abang Johari said that BMC has successfully built six hospitals in four strategic locations across the state, and its presence in Bintulu is timely as the town continues to grow rapidly with new investments.
“For Bintulu, we have many new investments, and foreign investors who are coming in require high-standard healthcare.
“For instance, the proposed polysilicon material company will employ about 200 engineers, and their culture requires them to undergo annual medical checks. This demands a lot of expertise,” he said.
Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari said Kemena Pacific Hospital would become a major player in Sarawak’s healthcare landscape.
The hospital, first launched in 2010 as Columbia Asia Hospital Bintulu, is the first private hospital in Bintulu and has now been strengthened under BMC.
With an investment of RM100 million, the facility offers services across 14 specialist fields – including orthopaedics, general surgery, ENT, gynaecology, paediatrics, internal medicine, radiology, anaesthesiology, dental surgery, emergency medicine and clinical psychology – supported by 140 staff.
Abang Johari added that with Bintulu’s rapid development and inflow of global investors, the expansion of private healthcare facilities such as Kemena Pacific Hospital is vital to meet rising medical needs.
