KUCHING: Sarawak’s education performance continued to improve in 2024, with strong results in major examinations, says Yayasan Sarawak director Datuk Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin.

He said the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results showed a State Average Grade (GPN) of 4.84, an improvement of 0.08 from the previous year.

He added that the 2024 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) results recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.68, with 92 candidates achieving a perfect 4.00 and 12 schools obtaining averages above 3.00.

“We are proud of the state’s academic achievements last year. The 2024 SPM recorded a GPN of 4.84, which is an improvement of 0.08 from the previous year.

“For STPM, we saw a CGPA of 2.68, with 92 candidates scoring 4.00 and 12 schools achieving averages above 3.00,” he said.

He said this during the Premier of Sarawak Special Award (AKPS) 2025 presentation ceremony here today (Nov 17), officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Junaidi said the improved examination outcomes reflected the state government’s ongoing efforts, together with Yayasan Sarawak, to strengthen the education system through sustained support and targeted programmes.

He added that outreach initiatives remained crucial to ensure rural students did not fall behind due to geographical or socio-economic challenges.

Through the AKPS, Yayasan Sarawak recognised outstanding students, educators, leaders and schools for their performance throughout 2024.
