A TOTAL of RM17.26 billion is required to improve health facilities throughout Sarawak, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to Dr Sim, an estimate of RM9.25 billion and RM8.01 billion are required for upgrading and redevelopment works of hospital facilities and health clinics respectively.

“To date, 76 per cent or 206 out of 271 health clinics throughout Sarawak are in poor physical condition.

“An estimate of RM3.1 billion was projected by the State Health Department in 2023 to redevelop these dilapidated health clinics.

“The federal government has allocated an additional RM50 million for six dilapidated health facility projects.

Currently, all these projects are in pre-implementation stage and tender for four out of the six facilities will be called soon after the design is completed by PWD Sarawak,” he said in his ministerial winding up speech during the DUN Sitting here today.

For the year 2025, he said the federal Ministry of Health (MoH) has allocated RM48.8 million for upgrading, renovation and repair works of health clinics in Sarawak.

“Of these, RM40 million is under the Bitara MADANI initiative budget and RM7.5 million under the BP201 budget is for rural clinic services. A total of RM1.3 million under BP09 is allocated for upgrading and repair works for quarters,” he added.

For the expansion of cardiology services throughout Sarawak, he said via the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) Rolling Plan 4 (RP5), MOH has approved RM 14.5 million each to set up Invasive Cardiac Laboratory (ICL) at Miri and Sibu Hospital.

Apart from that, he said RM12.5 million was approved to replace the existing ICL at Sarawak Heart Centre.

Meanwhile, the overall physical progress of Petra Jaya Hospital is 87.97 per cent, and for the new Lawas Hospital is 91.12 per cent as of April 25, 2025.

He added that Klinik Kesihatan Serian (KK) Type 3 has successfully commenced operation on April 7 and KK Siburan Type 3 on Apr 21.

Under Rintis’ project initiative, he said two new clinics were approved with a total estimated cost of RM12.8 million.

“KK Nanga Atoi is currently under construction and is expected to complete by year end whereas KK Nanga Ngungun is currently under tender evaluation process,” he said.

On the Sarawak Cancer Centre, he said the project is currently under pre-implementation stage and the Public Works Department (PWD) Malaysia is appointed as the implementing agency.

“At this moment, PWD Malaysia is in the midst of preparing the cost estimation for the project according to the 310 beds,” he said.
