KUCHING: The presence of State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki added excitement and prestige to the Gabungan Jurutera Perunding Bumiputera Sarawak (GJPBS) Pickleball Tournament 2025 held here on Sunday (Dec 14).

The event was made even more special by his participation as a competitor, representing the State Secretary’s Office in the VIP Event category.

His spirited performance inspired his team, emerging as overall champions of the group category after defeating the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).

The victory secured them the championship title, along with the tournament trophy, medals and a total cash prize of RM3,000.

SEDC secured medals and a cash prize of RM1,500 while the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) took third place, receiving medals and a cash prize of RM1,000.

In the VIP category, first place went to the Public Works Department (JKR) after they successfully overcame their closest rivals, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), in the final match of the category.

The JKR win earned them medals and a cash prize of RM1,000, while the SEB pair took home RM500.

The Land and Survey Department (JTS) finished in third place in the VIP category, securing medals and a cash prize of RM300.

The tournament involved a total of 16 teams: the Sarawak Secretary’s Office, JKR Sarawak, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) Sarawak, JTS Sarawak, SEB, IEM Sarawak Branch, Borneo Development Corporation (BDC) Sdn Bhd, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), SEDC, Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), CIDB Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), and GJPBS.
