KUCHING: Sarawak’s women’s volleyball team struck gold and the men’s side bronze at the 65th MSN-Malaysia National Volleyball Championship in Johor Bahru, highlighted by multiple individual awards for standout performances.
The women’s team delivered a commanding display in the final, defeating hosts Johor in straight sets of 25–14, 25–15, 25–20 to clinch the national title.
Their consistency, teamwork, and composure throughout the tournament earned praise from spectators and coaches alike.
Sarawak’s dominance was further reflected in the individual accolades.
Britney Tie Chan Xuan was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Outside Spiker, while Joan Ling Yu Yian shared the Best Outside Spiker honour.
Ava Wong Jin Yi earned Best Setter, Stephanie Law Feng Nie took Best Libero, and head coach Sanong Kulchim was recognised as Best Coach.
On the men’s side, Sarawak claimed the bronze medal after defeating Kuala Lumpur 3–1 (25–19, 19–25, 25–20, 25–20), capping off a strong campaign filled with determination and resilience.
Men’s player Timothy Lim Yii Jie was named Best Outside Spiker, further cementing Sarawak’s all-round excellence at this year’s championship, held from Oct 17 to 19.
