LIMBANG: The Pan Borneo Highway’s 12km link from Limbang to Brunei will be built by the state government.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said this is because the federal government had decided not to continue with it.

“Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali had agreed to continue building the road from Limbang to Brunei,” he said during a meet-the-people session here yesterday.

Abang Johari said he and Awang Tengah had paid a courtesy visit to the Sultan of Brunei and told him about the state government’s decision.

He said connecting Limbang and Brunei would further enhance economic relations between Sarawak and Brunei.

The agricultural sector in both sides of the border will be boosted to benefit the people.

He said the state government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) would continue to implement development projects and continue the cancelled projects for the betterment of Sarawak and its people.

“Limbang and Lawas which is under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA), has big potential and needs to be further developed.

“That is why the state government has allocated RM1.5 billion to develop this area,” he said.

With that, he said, Limbang and Lawas would see some improvements in five years’

time especially their capacities to generate more revenue for the state.
