SARAWAK is expected to produce 30,000 cans of corned beef, 100,000 beef patties, and 1,000 packs of minced beef in 2025.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said in 2024, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) produced 15,470 cans of corned beef, 68,850 beef patties, and 196 packs of minced beef for the local market.
He said the products are now available in 90 supermarkets across Kuching, Miri, and Bintulu under SEDC’s downstream processing initiative.

“Moving forward, SEDC will expand its market to neighbouring regions starting with the Philippines and Indonesia in the first quarter of 2026 and R&D to produce Sara-Bif Serunding, Corned Lamb, Lamb Patties and Meatball, targeting the first quarter of 2026 for local market entry.
“In addition, SEDC will develop and expand the Karabungan Cattle Farm in Miri Division to be the model for modern livestock hub in Sarawak,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the August House today (May 27).
Rundi pointed out that as of this year, Sarawak’s self-sufficiency level (SSL) for beef has increased to 16.1 per cent, while mutton SSL stands at 14.9 per cent.
In 2024, he said the SSL for beef was 15.1 per cent and mutton was 12.9 per cent.
“Both SSLs are on track toward achieving the target of 25 per cent by 2030,” he added.
Meanwhile, he said Sarawak’s cattle and buffalo population now stands at 24,500 heads, up from 23,000 recorded last year.
He said an allocation of RM25.4 million has also been set aside for breeder stock under the 2025 national food security programme.
