SIBU: Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) Persiaran Brooke under the Ministry of National Unity spread joy and solidarity to teachers and students of Destiny for Children (DFC) centre here in conjunction with Teacher’s Day and Gawai celebration recently.
KRT Persiaran Brooke Chairperson, Melinda Wong Kwong Hung, said that the event aimed at fostering relationship among students and staff of various races, religion, culture and background.
She stressed that KRT Persiaran Brooke hoped through such gathering it would help to create a harmonious community and further strengthen national unity by ensuring peace, stability and progress for Malaysia Madani.
“Apart from this, we hope to bring the Gawai mood to all teachers and students of DFC.
“As it is also Teacher’s Day celebration, we also wish to take this opportunity to show our support and appreciation to all the teachers under the leadership of their principal, Pauline Rogers for their great commitments in this special institution,” she stated in her speech.
“We understand that none of you wish to have non-citizen status.
“However, it is good to note that our Sarawak Government had taken great initiative in trying to help all stateless children to get the status of Malaysian citizen to ensure that no one is left behind from enjoying the fruits of our country’s development.”
Meanwhile, Sibu Division National Unity Officer, Jendri Mangku who was also at the event, was elated to discover that DFC was very committed in giving the opportunity for non-Malaysians children to get an education.
These children are the ones whose status is not confirm yet, and they are on list of stateless children and Malaysian school dropout above 13 years old.
Through the opportunity given by DCF, these children will be able to enjoy school life just like other children in government or private schools.
Jendri urged the students not to look down upon themselves due to their respective circumstances.
“Just study hard to acquire knowledge. Your struggle and sincere efforts will surely bear fruits in future,” he advised.
The programmes for that day include performances by students, presentation of gifts to teachers and refreshments for all attendees.
