KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is committed to strengthening the development of the Sarawak Askar Wataniah Regiment as a key component in the state’s defence and security through the establishment of the Sarawak Askar Wataniah Empowerment Committee (JPAWS).
The formation of JPAWS is a strategic initiative by the state government to enhance the role and capabilities of the Sarawak Askar Wataniah Regiment in addressing current security challenges.
This commitment was reflected in the first JPAWS meeting held on Tuesday (April 21), chaired by Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel.
The meeting focused on two main thrusts – strengthening human capital and improving infrastructure facilities.
In his speech, Abdullah emphasised that the state government will continue to support the development of the Sarawak Askar Wataniah Regiment in line with the state’s strategic interests.
He said the empowerment efforts are crucial to ensuring that Sarawak’s security, stability and well-being are continuously safeguarded.
Discussions also covered the need to upgrade existing facilities to ensure a more effective and sustainable level of operational readiness.
