KUCHING: The state’s own research council might be in effect as early as January next year.
This was said by Minister of Education, Science, and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong during a press conference at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Wednesday.
“We have agencies doing research such as the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) and Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute doing research but without any coordination or collaboration.
“The Chief Minister has already directed me to set up the framework for the council and will be ready to be tabled in the Cabinet meeting as well as the next State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting,” he said.
The state government is currently in the process of setting up the state’s own proposed research council which will have regulatory power on research as well as coordinate researches being done in the state and will be based under Manyin’s ministry.
Earlier on before the press conference, Manyin represented Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg at the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Development, Environment, and Society (ICDES) 2017 which was also held here at the hotel.
