KUCHING: Police will launch Op Selamat from Mar 19 to 24 throughout the state in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
The operations will involve various branches and departments of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP).
In a statement today, Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohamd Zainal Abdullah said around 750 officers and personnel will be involved in the operations.
This is to create awareness and knowledge on safety among road users to follow traffic laws and to reduce the rate of accidents during the festive season.
“The operations will focus on federal, state and municipal roads., especially in accident-prone areas and at areas with traffic jams.
“Last year, there were 332 road accidents cases during Hari Raya , which has decreased compared to 354 cases in 2024.
“During Op Selamat last year, three districts recorded the highest road accident cases – Kuching with 87 cases, followed by Miri (50 cases) and Padawan (43 cases),” he said.
Road users are advised to exercise precaution while on the road and adhere to traffic laws as well as follow instructions from police officers and personnel during the operations.
Members of the public who are travelling during the festive season are advised to inform police through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application or go to the nearest police station or visit the RMP website to fill in the ‘balik kampung’ form.
