KUCHING: Staff in the Premier’s Department need to be aware of the state government’s initiatives in order to elevate Sarawak to a higher level.
Deputy Minister in Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said this is crucial because the staff in the department’s units will serve as liaison agents in explaining some of the government initiatives and policies to the grassroots.
Abdullah stated that the Sarawak government is currently working hard to develop the state, especially in the adoption of green energy technology.
“Everyone knows that the state is making great efforts with various policies and development agendas.
“That being said, we in the units under the Premier’s Department must always be up to date with the latest initiatives such as hydrogen energy, new airports, and so on,” he said.
He said this during the closing ceremony and prize giving for Ten-Pin Bowling Competition between UKAS and Unit Keselamatan dan Penguatkuasaan Sarawak (UKPS) in conjunction with UKPS 7th Anniversary at Megalanes Batu Kawa here on Friday (June 21).
In the meantime, UKPS Deputy Director Datuk Mohamad Morshidi Mustapha urged all UKPS officers and its staff to continually strengthen their discipline and work ethics so that the operations planned for this year can be carried out within the stipulated time frame and achieve the objectives of Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS2030)
“All UKPS employees are also urged to constantly enhance their knowledge in line with the times so that their thinking and skills are more adaptive and proactive to changes and the needs of public service in general, while driving the vision of Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) to become a world-class civil service.
“I would also like to remind that as public servants, we must always uphold integrity and transparency in performing our duties. The government takes seriously several incidents involving issues of corruption, abuse of power, misuse of integrity, and the disclosure of official government secrets to unauthorised parties.
“Therefore, all UKPS employees must be vigilant in every action, intention, and thought, always based on self-respect and trustworthiness in carrying out their duties,” he said.
A total of 320 participants, including Abdullah and staff from both units, took part in the competition.
In the VIP team category, the VIP UKAS 3 team emerged champions, winning a cash prize of RM800 and medals.
Meanwhile, the VIP UKPS 2 and VIP UKAS 1 teams finished in second and third place, respectively, with cash prizes of RM600 and RM400 and medals.
In the team category, the bowlers from UKPS dominated, with team KTB 1 taking first place with a cash prize of RM800 and medals, followed by Ops Boyak and Desa Wira in second and third places with prizes of RM600 and RM400 and medals.
Also present were UKAS Director Samuel Simon.
