KUCHING: As Muslims prepare to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has issued a reminder that the threat of the COVID-19 virus still exists, especially with the emergence of new variants in the state in recent weeks.

Dr Sim emphasised that people should not take the matter lightly and must continue to practise self-protection measures such as frequent hand washing, wearing face masks in crowded places, and observing social distancing.

“After successfully controlling COVID-19 for two years, a new variant has emerged in the state in recent weeks.

“Therefore, we need to be cautious and practise self-protection to prevent the spread of the virus,” he said.

Dr Sim also took the opportunity to wish all Muslims in Sarawak a happy Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
