SARIKEI: Malaysians, especially Sarawakians in several Middle Eastern countries affected by the ongoing conflict, have been advised to remain vigilant and comply with safety instructions issued by local authorities and the Malaysian Embassy.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the embassy is constantly monitoring developments and taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of Malaysians in the affected areas.

“The embassy is regularly issuing statements to ensure that Malaysians are safe and their whereabouts are registered with the embassy.

“This measure allows the embassy to know their location and in the event of any emergency, immediate action can be taken to ensure safety,” she was quoted as saying in an UKAS report after officiating at the Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri 2026 event organised by the Sarikei Division Social Welfare Department (JKM) here Tuesday (March 3).

According to her, all efforts are being made to place affected Malaysians in safer locations in addition to ensuring the process of returning them home can be carried out in an orderly and safe manner.

“We pray that all Malaysians in countries experiencing conflict remain safe and protected,” she said.

Meanwhile at the programme, a total of 420 recipients of monthly welfare assistance received cash contributions and hampers in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

The programme served as a platform to express the government’s concern in easing the financial burden of the target group in addition to fostering a culture of caring and shared responsibility in the community.

Fatimah expressed hope that the aid distributed can provide a ray of hope and joy to the recipients throughout Ramadan and ahead of the Syawal celebration.
