BERLIN: The Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) Berlin started on Wednesday with the Sarawak delegation engaging with international tourism trade partners and travel agents who were keen in doing business with Sarawak.

In a press statement issued yesterday, the Sarawak Tourism Board’s participation in the worlds’ largest travel fair revealed that they constantly received new enquiries on the destination, while existing tourism partners have shown keen interest in building up their business and enquired about new tourism products for packaging.

Leading the six-member delegation at the fair, Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz, who is also the Chairman of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), said that the fair was a good start and had hoped for more business and engagement sessions till the end of the trade fair.

Wahab, who is also Kalaka State Assemblyman, expressed his gratitude to Tourism Malaysia for being a partner in the fair.

“Sarawak’s presence in Germany and other German speaking countries have been highly regarded especially in its tourism product experiences featuring a diverse and unique elements of culture, nature and adventure.

“Despite having no direct air accessibility to Malaysia, Germans arrivals have not been severely affected but maintained consistent numbers for the past years,” he added.

Wahab expressed confidence that Sarawak would be able to do better this year with the positive indication shared by many German travel agents that he met at the fair.

“We will be expecting joint tactical promotions with our German partners and also Tourism Malaysia’s office in Frankfurt and to be supported by an airline which currently connects Kuching to Frankfurt,” he explained.

A series of business sessions, media interviews and destination presentations would continue to be held until today, while the fair would received non trade visitors over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Wahab had the privilege to meet Tischler Reisen AG’s Managing Director, Michael Metzner, who presented updates on Sarawak’s tourism promotion and product packaging.
