SIMANGGANG: The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Career Carnival organised by the Sri Aman Zone Counseling and Guidance Teachers Association attracted 600 participants and featured seven institutions and five STEM agencies and as exhibitors.

The programme was held at Dewan Suarah Sri Aman on Tuesday (Jan 7), officiated by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

In his speech, he highlighted that programmes like this are significant in exposing the younger generation to various educational and career fields.

A total of 12 booths were set up for visitors to explore educational and career opportunities in the STEM fields.

“Careers in STEM are crucial in shaping a nation capable of competing in the increasingly complex global challenges. This carnival is expected to uncover talents and inspire students’ creativity in producing innovative projects,” said Harden.

He also noted the importance of enhancing STEM literacy among school students as part of efforts to prepare Sarawak for achieving high-income region status by 2030.

He further called on all parties to ensure that research and development (R&D) in Sarawak benefit socioeconomic advancements while supporting educational initiatives, such as improving English proficiency and providing conducive learning environments.
