BAU: The STEM CATALYSTS programme, held at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Chung Hua here, aims not only to introduce students to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts but also to spark their curiosity through engaging and interactive hands-on activities.

Organised by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD) in collaboration with Sarawak Skills, the event held yesterday saw enthusiastic participation from students across Bau District.

Transport Deputy Minister cum Tasik Biru assemblyman, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, was present to show his support and took part in the interactive activities prepared for students.

According to Henry, the programme was carefully designed to stimulate interest in STEM through engaging, experience-based learning.

He emphasised that the initiative was not just about teaching theories but also about allowing students to apply what they learned in a practical and enjoyable setting.

“This kind of hands-on STEM learning is a positive step in introducing young students to rapidly growing career opportunities in science and technology,” he said.

“Such an approach effectively cultivates deep interest among students, as they don’t just learn theories but also explore how to apply them in real-life situations.”

Ten schools from Bau District took part in the programme, which featured a variety of exhibition booths and interactive STEM-related activities.

Among the participating exhibitors were Sarawak Skills, Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), and several other agencies and institutions contributing their expertise in STEM education.
