KUCHING: PETROSNiaga Sdn Bhd, the retail liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) arm of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), is implementing several measures to maintain the LPG supply in the northern part of the state.

PETROS in a statement said that following the recent flood affecting many parts of Sarawak, of which a landslide occurred at PUSAKA Integrated Resources Sdn Bhd (PIRSB) LPG Bottling Plant in Bintulu on Jan 29, PETROS halted operations of the facility to prioritise the safety of the surrounding community.

“Thus, PETROSNiaga Sdn Bhd is working closely with PIRSB to set up a temporary bottling plant in Bintulu to address the supply needs of Northern Sarawak.

“This temporary facility can produce up to 50 per cent of the existing plant’s original capacity and is expected to be operational by early April,” it said.

Restoration of the existing plant is progressing, and is expected to take up to six months, the oil and gas company added.

It said PETROSNiaga is also implementing several measures to ensure minimal disruption in the northern region.

“Senari Independent Oil Terminal (IOT) in Kuching has ramped up production from a daily average of 13,000 cylinders to about 26,000 cylinders, which is sufficient to meet Sarawak’s daily demand of 25,000 cylinders.

“This is further supported by contingency measures including establishing a depot for additional storage capacity in the northern region,” it said.

PETROS said efforts to enhance supply to high-demand areas such as Miri, Bintulu, and Sibu have also been intensified, with an increase in transporters and LPG cylinders to ensure faster and more consistent deliveries.

“Furthermore, PETROSNiaga is securing additional LPG supply from Sepanggar Bay in Sabah to reinforce distribution in Northern Sarawak. The situation is expected to stabilise within a week,” it said.

Despite the disruptions, the subsidised household LPG price remains unchanged at RM26.60 per cylinder when purchased from authorised distributors and dealers.

Meanwhile, consumers experiencing unauthorised price hikes or extra charges are encouraged to report to PETROSNiaga Customer Service at 1300-88-2122 or the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) at 1-800-886-800 or via WhatsApp at 019-8488000.
