KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) has delivered a number of meaningful initiatives that reflect its ongoing commitment to the industry.

STF’s President, Audrey Wan Ullok, said among them are the STF Gawai Dayak Open Houses since 2019, the Ninth Sarawak Hornbill Tourism Awards, celebrating excellence across 2019 to 2023, and the publication of the ‘State Industry Report: Private Sector Perspectives’, providing valuable insights and feedback on the ground to guide policy and growth.

“These efforts are not merely events, they are platform for unity, advocacy and progress.

“Looking ahead, I am pleased to share that this year, STF will continue to host our open houses for Gawai in Betong on June 7 at Engkeranji longhouse, ensuring inclusivity and community engagement.

“Step into the festive world of Iban heritage, where vibrant traditional costumes, enchanting dance performances, and sacred rituals take the centre stage,” she said.

She said this in her speech during the STF’s 21st Anniversary Dinner, officiated by Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, at Imperial Hotel here on Wednesday.

Audrey added that visitors can choose to book various organised packages, including guided cultural tours, stays in longhouses or glamping tents, and access to a wide range of experiences, including visiting traditional longhouses and more.

“Guests can now enjoy the thrill of glamping in the great outdoors, blending the beauty of nature with the comfort of modern amenities,” she said.

She then stated that STF are planning to organise town hall sessions with tourism players and ministries, creating space for dialogue and idea-sharing because STF believe real progress begins with real conversations.

“These activites are all designed to strengthen our ecosystem, deepen our partnerships, and ensure that no voice is left unheard.

“And for this, our Minister (Abdul Karim) has stressed to STF many times to speak up and bring to his attention any issue we may have.

“I would like to thank Abdul Karim for always making time to listen to us and offer our solutions.

“We started with our ‘State of the Industry Report’ this year, which gives valuable feedback from the private sector players in the industry to the Ministry.

“This was well-received, and we will continue to work close and alongside the Ministry for the wellbeing and growth of our tourism ecosystem in Sarawak,” she added.
