KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) remains committed to environmental conservation through innovative green technology and strategic initiatives.

This commitment is expected to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Sarawak’s aspirations under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, ensuring that Sarawak remains a green state.

STIDC deputy general manager Haluyah Awi believes that collaboration among various stakeholders and industry players will help nurture a younger generation that is more aware of environmental issues in the field of green technology.

“As an initial step, all parties must play a role in exploring collaboration opportunities in green research and innovation, such as the development of bamboo-based and sustainable wood products.

“In addition, educational programs such as workshops and industrial training can also be organized to enhance students’ knowledge of best practices in natural resource management,” she said.

Haluyah said this during the courtesy visit of the SmartGreen Committee from Mas Gading Community College (KKMG) to STIDC Headquarters in Petra Jaya today.

Meanwhile, KKMG deputy director of management and advisor of the SmartGreen Committee, Munirah Yahya, expressed hope for more collaborations with Pusaka towards environmental sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives.

“We have learned many new things from STIDC during today’s visit, including STIDC initiatives towards environmental sustainability and eco-friendliness.

“In addition, we also learned about the bamboo planting initiative as an alternative raw material to supplement wood supply and reduce dependence on natural forest timber,” she explained.

In this regard, she added that Mas Gading Community College is interested in exploring opportunities for collaborative bamboo planting activities with STIDC in line with green technology efforts.
