KOTA SAMARAHAN: A routine patrol quickly escalated into a pursuit that ended with the arrest of two men and the recovery of a stolen pickup truck along Jalan Outer Ring Samarahan, Batu 15.
The incident happened today (Dec 30) when the mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) team encountered a white Toyota Hilux travelling in a suspicious manner without a rear license plate.
When instructed to stop, the vehicle instead accelerated towards the Samarahan-Padawan boundary, leading to a pursuit.
Shortly after, the MPV, together with the Crime Prevention Unit, managed to intercept the vehicle at the quarry junction along Jalan Outer Ring Samarahan.
Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said the suspects later jumped out and attempted to resist arrest, prompting officers to use minimal force to subdue them.
Checks through the MCARD system confirmed the Hilux had been reported stolen in a case lodged at Kota Sentosa police station.
Further inspections also found no illegal items on the suspects, who were unable to produce valid identification and only provided verbal particulars.
Police records showed both suspects have previous arrest histories.
Both men and the recovered vehicle were taken to Kota Samarahan district police headquarters for further investigation.
