PADAWAN: Another stone-throwing incident along Jalan Batu Kawa last night (Saturday, July 12), has sparked concerns of a possible copycat, just days after an earlier suspect was arrested and charged in court.
In this latest case, a driver sustained injuries, and his front windscreen was smashed after his vehicle was struck by a stone at around 7:30 pm.
Photos of the incident quickly went viral on social media.
This has reignited concerns among the public, with signs pointing to the possibility of a copycat mimicking previous attacks along the same stretch of road.
Padawan police chief, Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, confirmed that a report has been lodged over the new incident.
“Yes, we have received a report. Investigations are underway to identify the suspect,” he said when contacted today.
In an earlier case, a 68-year-old man – who holds a Person with Disabilities (OKU) card – was arrested and charged with throwing stones at vehicles in two separate incidents at Batu Kawa.
He has been ordered by the Magistrate’s Court to undergo a one-month psychiatric evaluation.
The court has fixed August 11 for mention of the case.
Earlier, Padawan police had received ten reports involving stone-throwing incidents, which are being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
Several stones used in the previous cases were also seized as evidence.
