KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has suggested installing water pipelines on bridges to enhance treated water delivery to residents.
This measure, he said, aims to mitigate risks, minimise damage, ensure smoother distribution, and effectively tackle pipe leakage problems.
“We do have water supply from Sungai Bidat, with pipelines extending to Tanjung Manis for treatment and consumption. However, the supply from Sibu must traverse seven rivers, with pipelines laid underwater, posing risks of damage and supply disruption due to ground movements.
“Reinforcing bridges to support pipelines could significantly ease leakage detection and repair, offering a more reliable water supply infrastructure,” Abang Johari said when officiating at the Leaders with The People programme at Tanjung Manis Water Treatment Plant today (Feb 17).
Abang Johari noted that underwater pipelines are prone to disconnections caused by geological conditions.
“In enhancing bridge structures to support this measure, we eliminate the risks associated with underwater pipelines, ensuring uninterrupted water supply,” he added.
