KUCHING: Streetlights will soon illuminate the 7.2-kilometre stretch of the Pehin Sri Haji Adenan bin Haji Satem Highway (FAC Highway) leading to Telaga Air Esplanade, following state government approval.
“Three weeks ago, the Public Works Department (PWD) informed me that the State Government had approved the allocation for the installation. PWD has assured me that they will expedite the installation of streetlights along the road soon,” said Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi during the closing ceremony of the Telaga Air Festival 2024 at Kampung Telaga Air yesterday (Dec 22).
Abdul Rahman stressed that the streetlight installation is crucial, as the highway has become a vital route for residents commuting between Telaga Air and Kuching.
“Currently, the highway is very dark at night, and installing streetlights will improve safety and make it easier for road users to travel,” he added.
He urged the village head and Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) councillors to contact JKR if installation delays saying that it needs to be done quickly.
