KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) has completed the installation of 68 new streetlights across 15 key areas in the Batu Kawa constituency to enhance public safety and community infrastructure.
The project, valued at RM83,846, was funded under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) of Deputy Premier cum Batu Kawah assemblyman, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
The newly illuminated areas include Jalan Segubang, Kampung Rantau Panjang, Jalan Moyan Segah, Jalan Moyan Indah, Kim Shak, Sin San Tu B, Jalan Desa Wira, Jalan RPR Batu Kawah, Jalan Batu Kawa, Kampung Stapok, Jalan Segedup, Jalan Highfield, Kampung Sinar Budi Lama, Jalan Sungai Tapang Ulu, and Jalan Rantau Panjang.
“This has long been a fundamental need voiced by Batu Kawa residents.
“Since being elected as their representative in 2016, I have consistently raised this issue with the Premier of Sarawak.
“I am grateful that the YAB Premier understands the grassroots needs and has extended his full support, both in principle and funding, demonstrating the Sarawak Government’s genuine commitment to improving the quality of life for Sarawakians,” he said in a press statement today.

Dr Sim noted that the initiative will continue given the vastness of the Batu Kawa area, with priority given to locations that have existing utility poles, high-traffic zones, and road bends deemed hazardous.
“For areas without electricity infrastructure but with pressing needs, alternative arrangements will be made,” he added.
Since 2018, a total of 1,155 street lights have been installed across Batu Kawa under his leadership, with a cumulative investment exceeding RM1 million.
The installations began with 107 units in 2018 (RM220,000), followed by 575 units in 2019 (RM361,275), 190 units in 2020 (RM118,520), and 117 units in 2023 (RM297,944).
He also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and involved, urging them to be the “eyes and ears” of the community by reporting any local issues and offering constructive suggestions.
