KUCHING: The Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, stressed the need to strengthen medical infrastructure and deepen federal-state cooperation to improve healthcare access across Sarawak.
He said this during a courtesy call by Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, at the official residence, Kasuma Resort, Petra Jaya, here this morning.
Wan Junaidi said key priorities included the expansion of healthcare infrastructure, improved coordination between the federal government and Sarawak, and measures to ensure services reached rural and interior communities.
“The Head of State also emphasised the importance of integrating digital technology into the medical records system, alongside the need to build health clinics at strategic locations, particularly in rural areas, to improve access for local communities.
“Emphasis was also placed on the provision of treatment wards and the placement of medical officers to ensure that patients requiring urgent care receive appropriate attention.
“These efforts are crucial to ensure that the people of Sarawak, especially those in interior areas, have equitable access to quality healthcare services, in line with the national health system reform agenda,” his office said in a statement.
During the meeting, Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, were briefed by Dr Dzulkefly on the progress of healthcare development projects in Sarawak, including the Petra Jaya Hospital, which is expected to be completed this year, and the Sarawak Cancer Centre.
The briefing also covered initiatives to further strengthen healthcare services in rural areas.
Wan Junaidi expressed hope that cooperation between the ministry and the Sarawak Government would continue to be reinforced to improve healthcare infrastructure and outcomes for the people of Sarawak.
