Strong quake hits PNG, no tsunami threat to M’sia

KUALA LUMPUR:  A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit  New Britain Region in Papua New Guinea, at 5.24 am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement said the earthquake with a depth of 61 kilometres occurred 77 km southwest of Kimbe, PNG.

However, it did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia. – BERNAMA
