JAKARTA: Under a sunny blue sky and the familiar warmth of Jakarta’s heat, the hustle and bustle of the capital city set the scene for a quiet but meaningful exchange.
With the iconic Monas towering in the background, a group of students from Universitas Pelita Harapan was recently seen browsing the digital editions of Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak.
The students, hailing from various parts of Indonesia such as Nias Island in Sumatra, Manado and also Makassar, shared with Sarawak Tribune today (May 3) their growing interest in Sarawak and the wider Borneo region.
One student from Manado expressed her excitement at the idea of visiting Sarawak in the future.
“Maybe one day, I’d like to travel to Sarawak—possibly even finding a future partner there,” she said with a laugh.
Another student in the group, currently pursuing a degree in Education, revealed a broader travel aspiration.
“I would like to visit Brunei Darussalam, and maybe also Sarawak when I can,” she said.
Hailing from West Kalimantan, the young woman, proudly shared that she is of Iban heritage.
Lighthearted conversations flowed easily between the students and reporters from Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak, reflecting the warmth and hospitality typical of Indonesian culture.
The encounter was a gentle reminder of the friendly ties and shared heritage between two neighbouring nations.
Both publications have grown their digital presence, making it easier for readers abroad to follow Sarawak’s news and culture- with its stories now reaching unexpected places, like a quiet university courtyard in the heart of Jakarta.
