MIRI: A 22-year-old university student was rescued on Sunday afternoon (Sept 7) after falling and injuring her back on a steep slope at Batu Niah National Park.
The Fire and Rescue Department in Batu Niah received a distress call at 3.47 pm that a young woman had slipped and been pinned by a rock during a trek.
She was found about 1.6 km from the riverbank, stranded on a 50-foot slope and unable to move due to pain in her lower back.
A nurse from Miri Health Department was already at the scene providing first aid when the fire team arrived.
Firefighters then worked to stabilise the victim and carefully moved her onto a stretcher before carrying her down to the riverbank.
From there, a Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) boat ferried her across the river, where she was handed over to Batu Niah Clinic for further treatment.
The operation, led by PBK II Awang Azdwan, involved five fire personnel with support from police officers and forestry staff.
The victim is reported to be in stable condition.
