KOTA SAMARAHAN: The recent St Joseph’s Private School Visit to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Programme was prepared as an interactive journey into scientific inquiry by stepping into the faculty’s advanced laboratories settings.
The visit to UNIMAS’ Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FRST) provides St Joseph’s students the opportunity to explore complex scientific concepts through practical application, as students participate in a variety of engaging STEM activities meticulously crafted to challenge their critical thinking, creativity and problem solving skills.
Dean of FRST, Professor Dr. Faisal Ali Anwarali Khan, stated that the profound impact of this educational outreach is anchored by the faculty’s reputable academic legacy.
“Since its establishment in July 1993 as one of UNIMAS’s pioneering faculties, FRST has spent over three decades at the forefront of natural resource science, management, and technology,” he said according to a statement on Thursday.
Highlighting the faculty’s ongoing undergraduate programmes, FRST offers a comprehensive and highly relevant suite of undergraduate programmes, which includes Resource Biotechnology, Animal Resource Science and Management, Resource Chemistry, Agrotechnology, Marine and Freshwater Biology, Zoological Technology, and Plant Resource Science and Management.
“The FRST is resolutely determined to develop Sarawak’s young scientists to meet the state’s PCDS 2030 targets.
“These include achieving a 60 per cent STEM student enrolment rate, maintaining a 60 per cent renewable energy capacity mix, reducing 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, and sustainably managing 6 million hectares of Permanent Forest Estates alongside 1 million hectares for conservation,” he added.
Initiatives such as the St. Joseph’s Private School visit reflect UNIMAS’ commitment through FRST to community engagement and educational empowerment by providing early, immersive exposure to applied science while inspiring and nurturing the next generation of scientists to support Sarawak’s future aspirations.
