SIBU: More than 200 students ofSMK Chung Cheng have successfully completed “A Safe Internet Programme’ yesterday (June 11) aimed at raising public awareness about online safety and cyberbullying among the youth.
The initiative were organized by Kelab Malaysiaku members, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Sibu branch, and PENTARAMA.
Malaysian Department of Information (JAPEN) deputy director, Sri Kestury Mohammed Zamhari, said that the collaboration with strategic partners seeks to share the latest government information with students in a face-to-face setting, despite information now being easily accessible through via social media.
“The JIWA@Kelab Malaysiaku programme helps nurture students with patriotic spirit and love for the nation.
“This programme also aims to build a generation that is united and harmonious, producing well-rounded and proactive students through mass communication techniques while shaping leadership qualities among students, especially Kelab Malaysiaku members in schools.

“In fact, conducting this programme face-to-face is also part of JAPEN’s new approach in providing understanding and exposure to students on the importance of practising online safety through informative performances by PENTARAMA Sarawak artists,” she said.
She added that the programme also served as a platform for JAPEN Sarawak to communicate the government’s latest policies, while further raising public awareness about the importance of safe internet practices and avoid cyberbullying.
Meanwhile, SMK Chung Cheng principal, Law Sie Yieng, expressed his appreciation to JAPEN Sarawak for selecting SMK Chung Cheng Sibu as the host of the PENTARAMA X Kelab Malaysiaku programme held at the school hall yesterday.
The PENTARAMA X Kelab Malaysiaku JAPEN Sarawak programme remains relevant as it ensures students are exposed to the latest information and knowledge on internet safety and cyberbullying, through talks delivered by Radin Belayong from MCMC Sibu.
Various activities were conducted including the reading of the Rukun Negara pledge, a national quiz, and entertainment performances by PENTARAMA Sarawak artists.
The programme was attended by students and teachers of SMK Chung Cheng.
For the record, in Sarawak, the PENTARAMA X Kelab Malaysiaku programme has involved 10 schools so far, with SMK Chung Cheng being one of the selected schools in Sibu.
