SIBU: To enliven the community atmosphere, promote local businesses, and celebrate Malaysia’s National Day, the ‘Primary School Recycling Fashion Show and Secondary School Betaboh Ngajat Competition’ was held at Taman Selera Harmoni carpark here on Saturday evening (August 30).
The event, co-organised by the Sibu Member of Parliament’s Service Centre together with Kumpulan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Sibu D’Tari, successfully attracted a large crowd of residents and parents, making the evening lively and festive.
Although this was the first collaboration between the service centre and the cultural group, it went smoothly and successfully brought about a meaningful cultural celebration while achieving the main goal – attracting people and revitalising the area.

The recycling fashion show by primary school students used recycled materials such as tissue, plastic, cardboard, and gunny sacks to create creative outfits and showcased them with confidence.
At the same time, secondary school students competed in the ‘Betaboh Ngajat’ performance, which highlighted the uniqueness of local culture.
According to the speech text from the service centre, ‘Betaboh Ngajat’ is more than just dance and music; it is a symbol of community spirit, courage, and unity.
It carries the wisdom and artistry passed down from the ancestors, serving as a cultural bridge between the past and the present, and reminding the younger generation to appreciate and continue this heritage.
The competition was not about winning or losing, but about the courage, effort, and enthusiasm shown by every participant.
