KUCHING: Sarawakians, particularly those from diverse leadership backgrounds, have been invited to take part in a 10-day study tour to the United Kingdom this November, ahead of a leadership seminar set to be held here early next year.

The tour, The Psychology of Resilience and Adaptability: Building the Foundation for Leadership Success, organised by MB Edulink Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Benfadzil Strategic Foresight & Innovation Consultant, is part of a broader initiative to strengthen leadership capabilities and mental resilience among the state’s current and future leaders.

Dr Benfadzil Mohd Salleh of Benfadzil Strategic Foresight & Innovation Consultant said the study tour, led by distinguished lecturers from a London university psychology department, will equip aspiring and current leaders with essential psychological tools to thrive in challenging environments.

“This immersive foundation programme explores the science of resilience and adaptability through engaging lectures, practical exercises and group discussions.

“Participants will also gain evidence-based strategies to navigate change and setbacks, laying a strong foundation for leadership excellence.

“It will also close with a one-day forum discussion on topics covered,” he said in an interview after paying a courtesy visit to Sarawak Tribune recently.

He added the organisers are targeting about 30 participants from various backgrounds, including government officials, politicians, corporate leaders, non-governmental organisation (NGO) representatives, educators, students – anyone with a desire to grow as a leader.

“The tour will also serve as a precursor to the two-day seminar ‘Generating a Winning Mindset for Leaders’, to be held in Kuching in early January 2026,” he said, while adding that participants of the tour will be eligible for a discounted rate for the seminar.

Dr Benfadzil further said he and his team are making arrangements to pay a courtesy call to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg soon, to formally invite him to officiate at the seminar’s opening.

“With the Premier’s increasing engagement with the United Kingdom, we see that this is a timely and strategic move to align local leadership development efforts with international expertise,” he added.

He hoped the study tour and subsequent seminar would help instil in Sarawak’s leaders the mental foundation necessary for progress, adding that such personal development is vital if the state is to position itself not merely as part of Malaysia, but as a leader of the nation.

Meanwhile, Dr Thomas Buan of MB Edulink Sdn Bhd said the tour will also blend academic enrichment with cultural exploration.

“Participants will visit prestigious academic institutions, iconic landmarks and enjoy exclusive shopping experiences at Bicester Village and Harrods.

“This unique combination of professional development, sightseeing and cultural immersion offers an unparalleled opportunity for personal and professional growth,” he said.

He added that the outcome of the study tour, from Nov 1 to 10, would equip participants with valuable psychological skills that would further enhance their experience at the Generating a Winning Mindset for Leaders seminar.
