Subis District Office opens two evacuation centres

MIRI: Two Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) in Subis District will be opened following floods in several villages in the Bekenu, Sibuti, Niah, and Suai areas due to continuous rain since early morning (Dec 9).

According to the Subis District Disaster Management Committee, Suai Secondary School (SMK Suai) will begin operating as PPS.

“In addition, Angus National School (SK Angus) will also be converted into a PPS,” it said in a statement issued by Subis District Office yesterday (Dec 9).

So far, the number of flood victims at both PPS is still being updated.

Earlier in Bintulu, a total of 56 victims from 14 households in Kampung Kemunting and Rumah Roselind were recorded at the Dewan Suarah Bintulu PPS as of 4.00 am yesterday.

For the record, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has updated the continuous rain warning to severe, affecting Bintulu (Bintulu and Sebauh) and Miri (Miri, Beluru, Subis, and Marudi) until December 9, 2025.

MetMalaysia has advised the public to obtain the latest weather information through its official website, the myCuaca app, the department’s social media channels, or by contacting the hotline at 1-300-22-1638 for any inquiries.
