PUTRAJAYA: There is a stable and sufficient supply of basic food items, such as eggs, chicken and beef, fish, vegetables and fruits, nationwide ahead of the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration and the Ramadan month.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) said that focus is placed on management and strengthening efforts at the production source level to ensure a continuous supply is guaranteed despite the expected surge in demand.

“The KPKM is committed to ensuring the readiness of the national food supply is at the optimum level to meet domestic needs throughout this festive season,” it said in a statement today.

It added that 478 Agro MADANI Sales (JAM) programmes were held nationwide from Jan 1 to Feb 8.

Through the JAM programme, the public could purchase selected basic items at prices 10 per cent to 30 per cent lower than local market prices, it added.

In conjunction with the Chinese New Year, Ramadan and pre-Syawal (February and March 2026), the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is set to hold 572 JAM programmes nationwide, involving 430 programmes at FAMA retail outlets and 142 at government premises and selected residential areas.

“The JAM programme offers supplies of vegetables, fruits, fish, eggs, groceries and other necessities at lower prices to help ease the cost of living of consumers ahead of the festive season and Ramadan. The government will ensure that everyone has access to sufficient food supplies throughout the festive period without worrying about the availability of supplies in the market,” it added. – BERNAMA
