KUCHING: The Sarawak Umrah and Islamic Tourism Expo Festival 2025 (SUITEX 2025) provides an opportunity for Sarawakians to easily and transparently access information on Umrah and Hajj packages, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts said events like SUITEX 2025 are essential, as they provide a platform for inquiries and verification regarding licences and packages managed by Sarawak Umrah and Hajj Association (SUHA) registered operators.
“The SUITEX 2025 event aims to raise awareness, particularly among the Muslim community, about licensed umrah, hajj, and Islamic travel agencies, while offering special packages at more competitive prices.
“Sometimes, in remote areas, people fall victim to unreliable umrah or hajj deals. Upon checking, some of these operators are unlicensed.
“A few years ago, I came across cases where people in my area were scammed.
“When asked, they mentioned paying small deposits in installments, only for the operators to vanish,” he said during a press conference on SUITEX 2025 here Wednesday (Jan 22).
Abdul Karim added that the organisation of SUITEX 2025 also reflects the commitment of the state government, through the Ministry to support initiatives that promote the development of the Islamic tourism sector.
To be held at Mydin Petra Jaya from Feb 21 to 23, he said the event will be open to the public daily, from 10am to 10pm each day.
“Over the course of the three-day event, the organisers have planned various exciting activities to cater to the needs of all community members.
“I wish SUHA every success in organising this year’s SUITEX 2025 and hope that the local community will seize the opportunity to visit this expo,” he said.
The event is supported by the Ministry, in collaboration with strategic partners such as the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), the Sarawak Mufti Department, and Kuching North City Hall (DBKU).
