SUKMA medallist Dayang delivers first diving gold for Sarawak

KUCHING: Dayang Nursharzyra Awang Nasaruddin made a flying start to the 61st MILO/PRAM MIAG Diving Championships 2026 by winning gold in the women’s 1m springboard open category at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatics Centre yesterday.

The reigning SUKMA 2024 gold medallist produced a composed display across five dives to finish with 228.80 points, delivering Sarawak’s first gold medal of the championship.

The 19-year-old opened strongly with 45.60 points in her inward 1½ somersaults before maintaining her consistency throughout the event.

Her best dive came in the fifth round with a forward 2½ somersaults routine worth 53.30 points, sealing victory ahead of a competitive field.

Representing Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Ong Ker Ying claimed silver with 213.35 points, while Singapore’s Ashlee Tan Yi Xuan took bronze on 192.15 points.

Hsueh Yu Hsin of Chinese Taipei KTI finished fourth overall with 152.75 points.

The victory further strengthens Dayang’s growing reputation as one of Sarawak’s rising diving talents.
