SELANGOR: Sarawak narrowly missed out on gold in the pencak silat competition at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), with Nura’isyah Ahmad Adam settling for silver in the women’s creative solo event on Saturday (Aug 16).
The 20-year-old from Kuching admitted she had hoped to deliver gold for Sarawak after months of intensive preparation but accepted the result after finishing runner-up in the final at Dewan Seri Sarjana, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).
“It wasn’t meant to be for me to contribute a gold medal to Sarawak.
“I had targeted the gold for a long time. We trained hard in camp for six months and sacrificed a lot of rest, but I accept the result,” she said.
Despite her disappointment, Nura’isyah described the silver as the best achievement of her SUKMA career.
“At SUKMA 2024, I was eliminated early. This time, Alhamdulillah, I was able to win silver.
“I would like to thank my parents, my coaches and the Sarawak government for giving me this opportunity,” she said.
Looking ahead, Nura’isyah said she hopes to one day earn the chance to represent Malaysia.
She scored 9.885 points in the final, finishing behind Perak’s Puteri Zharifah Shah Nazira, who claimed gold with 9.910 points.
Sarawak concluded its artistic silat campaign with one silver and one bronze medal, the latter won by Sofyan Syah Zainal and Mohamad Syafiq Abdullah in the men’s doubles event.
Sarawak coach Mohammad Nazri Saiful Bahri said he was satisfied with the overall performance, noting that the athletes had lived up to expectations despite stiff competition from other states.
“Reaching the final was already a bonus. The athletes gave everything they had and managed to deliver medals for Sarawak,” he said.
