SELANGOR: Ethan Damien Goh capped Sarawak’s bowling campaign by winning the men’s Masters title after defeating teammate Muhammad Isyraq Iqbal Ramadhan in an all-Sarawak final at Sunway Mega Lanes on Saturday (Aug 22).
The 16-year-old defeated Pahang’s Mohd Danial Abu Samah 268–230, 237–215 in the stepladder semi-finals before overcoming Isyraq 247–209, 245–210 to claim his first SUKMA Masters crown.
The title marked another step forward for Ethan, who won only a team bronze at the previous SUKMA and was making his Masters debut.
“I want to thank my family, teammates, friends and coaches for supporting me. I trained very hard for this and worked on every weak part of my bowling,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
Although the final guaranteed Sarawak both gold and silver, Ethan said neither he nor Isyraq eased off.
“It was still a fight because we both wanted to win,” he said.
Isyraq settled for silver, while Danial recovered to beat Terengganu’s Wan Zarif Ikram Wan Mazlan 247–181, 215–169 to secure bronze.
The Masters title completed a successful campaign for Ethan, who was also part of Sarawak’s gold medal-winning men’s team alongside Isyraq.
Sarawak finished the bowling competition with three gold medals, with Isyraq earlier claiming the men’s singles title and the pair helping the state secure the men’s team event.
However, Selangor ended Sarawak’s reign as overall bowling champions after topping the standings with four gold medals, one more than the Bumi Kenyalang contingent. Perlis finished third with two golds.
